Step One: Know Your Campus Procedure

UCSD Sponsored Projects officers will explain important procedures to get you started: searching for funding sources, differences between fellowship and grant, preparing your budget, campus resources, getting an eCommons ID, setting the timeline and helpful tips.

Knowing this before you start will save you time and hassle.

The Basics of Science Grant Writing

Faculty will explain the importance of preparation, introduce the proposal elements (abstract, specific aims, significance, design and method, etc), explain what and how to address each section, and share his experience as a grant submitter and reviewer.

Fellowship Writing Seminar

Faculty members will share the common sections of a fellowship application, how to target your fellowship to appropriate funding sources, and best practices.  A panel of postdocs will share what they did to successfully receive a fellowship.

Pathways to Independence: Winning an NIH K99/R00 grant.

Faculty will present the background of the program, experience as a reviewer, and provide valuable tips to make your application stand out. A panel of postdoc recipients will share their experience submitting, addressing reviewer’s comments, and plans for the second phase. If you are in the early stages of your postdoctoral training, this is not to be missed!
